Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data HostMyVideo collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We try to keep the language plain. If something is unclear, email us at support@querywing.com and a human will reply.

1. Who we are

HostMyVideo is a video hosting product operated by QueryWing, the parent company behind querywing.com. When this policy says “HostMyVideo”, “we”, “us”, or “our”, it means QueryWing acting as the controller of personal data processed through the HostMyVideo service. Our founder is Faizan Babar and you can reach the privacy team at support@querywing.com.

2. Data we collect

We collect four categories of data, and only what we need to operate the service:

  • Account information. Name, email address, company name, password hash (managed by Clerk), profile photo if you upload one, plan tier, and billing identifiers (managed by Stripe — we never see full card numbers).
  • Video content. Files you upload, generated assets like transcripts and thumbnails, custom metadata (titles, descriptions, tags), and AI-generated summaries and chapters produced from your videos.
  • Usage analytics. Plays, watch-time, geographic region of viewers, referrer URLs, device class, and aggregated viewer counts. We do not fingerprint individual viewers and we do not sell viewer data.
  • Support correspondence. Emails you send us, in-app messages, screenshots you attach, and any context required to resolve your ticket.

3. How we use it

We use the data above to:

  • operate the platform — store, transcode, deliver, and play back your videos;
  • generate AI features you opt into (transcripts, summaries, chapter markers);
  • show you analytics on your own dashboard;
  • bill you accurately and prevent fraud;
  • send transactional and (with consent) product update emails;
  • investigate abuse, security incidents, and policy violations;
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not train third-party AI models on your video content, and we do not sell your data or your viewers' data to advertisers.

4. Sharing with subprocessors

We rely on a small set of subprocessors to deliver the service. Each is bound by a data processing agreement and processes data only on documented instructions from us:

  • Bunny.net — video storage, transcoding, and CDN delivery (EU, Slovenia; global edge).
  • Neon — managed Postgres for application data (US-East AWS by default; EU region available on Business+).
  • Clerk — authentication and session management (US).
  • Stripe — billing, payments, and tax (US/IE; PCI-DSS Level 1).
  • OpenAI — transcript, summary, and chapter generation (US). API data is excluded from training under OpenAI's default API terms.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (US/EU).
  • Sentry — error monitoring and performance tracing (US).
  • Vercel — application hosting and edge runtime (US/global edge).

We update this list when subprocessors change. Customers on Business+ plans can subscribe to written notice of new subprocessors thirty days before they go live.

5. Data retention

Active account data is retained for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, video files, transcripts, AI-generated assets, and analytics are removed from our primary systems within 90 days. Backups age out within 35 days after that. Some billing records are retained longer where tax and accounting law requires it (typically seven years).

6. Your rights under GDPR and CCPA

Whether you are in the EU, the UK, California, or another jurisdiction with similar rules, you can exercise the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — get a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion (subject to legal retention).
  • Export / portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Restriction — pause processing while a dispute is resolved.
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@querywing.com from the address tied to your account. We respond within 30 days. EU residents can also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority; California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to opt out of “sharing” (we don't share for cross-context behavioural advertising).

7. HostMyVideo Chrome Extension

This section applies specifically to the HostMyVideo — Screen + Cam Recorder Chrome extension (Chrome Web Store ID: lgbnghhpijincgcamdanhmkhdaihpeji). The extension is a recording client for the HostMyVideo service and is published by QueryWing LLC. It is offered as an optional companion to the HostMyVideo web app and is bound by the same data-handling commitments described above.

7.1 Single purpose

The single purpose of the extension is to record the user's screen, tab, and camera and upload the resulting video file to the user's own HostMyVideo workspace. The extension does not perform any other function.

7.2 What the extension collects

  • Recorded video and audio. Captured locally in your browser via the standard Chrome screen, tab, and microphone capture APIs. The recording is uploaded directly to the HostMyVideo workspace you are signed in to. We do not access or store recordings outside of your workspace.
  • HostMyVideo session cookie. The extension reads the authentication cookie set by hostmyvideo.io so it can attach your recording to the correct account. The cookie is read only from hostmyvideo.io and is sent only to hostmyvideo.io APIs.
  • Local preferences. Microphone choice, camera choice, and last-used recording mode are stored locally via chrome.storage.local on your own device. They are not transmitted off the device.

The extension does not collect browsing history, page content, form inputs, location, financial information, health information, or personally identifiable information beyond what the signed-in HostMyVideo account already contains. The extension does not sell, rent, or transfer user data to any third party. The extension does not use user data for purposes unrelated to the single-purpose recording workflow above. The extension does not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

7.3 Permission justifications

Each permission requested by the extension manifest exists solely to support the recording workflow. We do not request a permission unless it is required for a feature you have chosen to use.

  • activeTab — required so the extension can attach to the tab you have open when you click “Record this tab”. Only used on explicit user action.
  • tabCapture — required to capture the video and audio of the current tab when you choose “Record tab”. Capture only begins after you explicitly start a recording.
  • offscreen — required to host theMediaRecorder in an offscreen document so the recording survives popup closes and tab switches.
  • storage — required to remember your microphone / camera choice and last-used recording mode across sessions. Stored locally on your device only.
  • downloads — required as a fallback so a recording can be saved locally if the upload fails (we never want to lose your recording).
  • cookies — required to read your HostMyVideo authentication cookie from hostmyvideo.io so the upload goes to your account. The cookie is never read from any other origin.
  • Host permission for hostmyvideo.io — required so the extension can upload to and authenticate against the HostMyVideo API. The extension does not request access to any other host.

7.4 Where extension data goes

Recordings created by the extension are uploaded directly to your HostMyVideo workspace over TLS and stored with the same subprocessors listed in section 4 (Bunny.net for video storage and delivery; Neon for metadata). The extension does not send recordings, telemetry, or cookies to any third party. There is no analytics SDK and no third-party tracker embedded in the extension.

7.5 Removing the extension

You can remove the extension at any time from chrome://extensions. Removing the extension immediately stops all data collection by the extension. Recordings already uploaded to your HostMyVideo account remain there and can be deleted from within the web app, or by deleting your account (section 5).
